Great set of slides from Michael Kerrisk, the Linux man page maintainer on the available IPC mechanisms in Linux and how you can use them. Great introduction with some neat examples, but be sure to check out TLPI book (http://man7.org/tlpi/) if you want a more indepth coverage of an API. I can't recommend that book enough!
