Apparently the Coalition considers asylum seekers arriving by boat a "national emergency" requiring military intervention. From what I can tell the latest round of election point scoring seems to be a race-to-the-bottom on who can be the most hard-line on "stopping the boats!".

I think the name "Operation Sovereign Borders" says it all. It's just really sad that both sides keep harping on about a non-issue instead of focusing on more pressing issues. Sigh...
