Just found that Japan's public broadcaster, the NHK, has an extensive Japanese lessons section. 

How is your learning of the language going? (or did you already learn it previously?)

I think I only knew how to count to four and "Konichwa" last year, so it's been pretty up hill. Having some leasons before I arrived definitely helped, but that they were all non-character based (romanji) kind of sucked for day to day usage.

I'd say I'm at basic proficiency, and can read a somewhat surprising amount if I try hard enough, as well as enough basics to get around on my own.
